Donald C. Stevens, 74, of Owego, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday evening, December 9, 2008, at home with his family by his side.

He is survived by his wife, Ann STEVENS; his daughter and son-in-law, Donnita and Doug HOVEY, Roanoke, Va.; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Cindy TENNANT, Pleasant Garden, N.C.; a sister, Patricia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Bobby. Don was born in Willseyville, N.Y. on December 19, 1933.

He served in the U.S. ARMY, and was honored as Queen Elizabeth's personal escort through the United States. Don was a tool and die maker by trade, working for Ithaca Gun, and later for Borg Warner. He loved cars and was actively involved in racing, as the Past President and founder of the WE-GO Racing Fan Club, and as a flagger for the Southern Tier Microd Association. Don was a perfectionist by nature and was the best provider a family could ever ask for.

A Funeral Service will be held at Richards Funeral Home, Rte. 17c West, Owego, N.Y., on Friday, December 12, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Alan JAGGER, Pastor of the Owego United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, N.Y. Friends are invited to visit at Richards Funeral Home on Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Please consider a memorial in memory of Don to Lourdes Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
