Looking for the following members of the HARRINGTON family living on a farm in the town of Richford in Tioga County NY:
Milan HARRINGTON - Age 29 in 1860
Sarah HARRINGTON - Age 24 in 1860
Henry HARRINGTON - Age 23 in 1860
George HARRINGTON - Age 16 in 1860
Mary HARRINGTON - Age 5 in 1860
Also included in the 1860 census were Stephen, Amy, and Martha HARRINGTON who lived with the above.
Jump ahead 10 years to the 1870 census and I find Stephen, Amy, and Martha living in nearby Tompkins County in the Town of Caroline with NO mention of the others....anywhere that I can find.
Mary and Martha appear to be twins so I can't imagine why they would have been separated which leads me to believe that Mary and at least a few of her family members died between 1860 and 1870. But if so, how? And if not, what happened?
Thank you for any help.

I am trying to find more information about the parents of Isaac FOOTE.
I was at the Philadelphia National Archives yesterday and found a Levi G. FOOT living in Berkshire in the 1830 census with several children, one of which was a male child between ages 5-10.
This Isaac Daniel FOOTE was my great, great grandfather and was born in 1823 in Tioga County, but have had difficulty finding any records of his parents.
Is there some information that you have that could make a connection?
The only other FOOT living in Tioga County with a male child between ages 5-10 was a Nancy FOOT living in Candor and was between the ages of 40-50, perhaps a grandmother. She had a male between 20-30 and a female between 14-20 also in her household.
Thank you for any information or leads that you have.

Where is Lovely Vale located in Tioga County?
I've just obtained a copy of my Great Grandfather's (Oscar MILLAGE) obit - I'm stumped over the name of the place where he had been residing prior (according to his obit) to his death and I'm hoping some reader of this website may know the answer.
"Oscar MILLAGE, aged 71 years, a prominent resident of Lovely Vale, died
at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. J. HART in Dryden, Monday, June 15 (1925). It also goes on to say that
his son, Lee MILLAGE, of Lovely Vale......"
Both of these men lived just outside of Candor on the Honey Pot Road where they had a large farm - Lee was a lifetime resident of Candor, Tioga County, NY (born and died) - Oscar was born in Danby, Tompkins County, NY but moved to Candor when he was in his twenties.
Hoping someone knows where this area was in Tioga County or has any idea if perhaps there had been another name for the area where they lived near Candor?? This one really has me perplexed!!
Would appreciate any help with this mystery. Thank you!

I'm looking for any information on the VALLEN family of Tioga or Broome County or VALLEN's who may have had a connection to people of these counties. My great-grandmother, Hattie May VALLEN, born 28 April 1880, was obtained soon after birth by a family named AYERS, who raised her. (They eventually moved to Potter County, PA.)
I believe I find Hattie in 1880 in Nanticoke in Broome County, and the only other VALLEN I could find was an 11-year old William VALLEN who lived in the household of an elderly couple, no relationship. The AYERS family that raised Hattie had connections in Tioga County, and her "foster" father had lived there, at least in his childhood.
I would like to trace William VALLEN as a possible brother of Hattie, and I believe he may have lived as an adult in Candor, Tioga County. I found a William VALLEN in 1910 and 1920 in Candor with wife Lois and daughter Lena. His birth year matched the birth year of the William VALLEN that I found in Nanticoke in 1880.
Thank you for any help you can give.

I am looking for the parents of my ggg-grandmother, Vestie/Vashtie McALLISTER who was born circa 1802 in the town of Caroline, which was then a part of Tioga County, NY. She married Elisha EATON from Summerhill, Cayuga County, NY circa 1819.
Their first child, Ebenezer EATON (my gg-grandfather), was born 14 JUL 1820 in Summerhill, NY. Vestie/Vashtie (McALLISTER) EATON, born 25 MAY 1802, d. June 30, 1830, at age 28 yrs, 1 mo., 5 days.
She and Elisha had five children:
1) Ebenezer (1820);
2) William M. (1822);
3) Edwin (c.1823);
4) Ann (EATON) BENEDICT (1824);
5) Zoe M. (1828).
I don't know for certain, but assume that Vestie/Vashtie lived with her family in Caroline until she married Ebenezer. That is just a guess, however.
Thanks for any assistance.

I have two Civil War letters signed by "Horace" and addressed to "My Dear Sister." There are several references to Owego in the letters. Because of the numerous historical and personal references in the letters, it was easy to place it as coming from someone in Co. H, 3rd infantry. There were two Horaces in that company, although a certain history book at the Tioga History Museum only listed one. I was able to confirm the existence of a second from national records. But I've been unable to absolutely confirm the identity of the author of these letters. Any info you could find would be a tremendous help.
The two possibilities are:
Horace CHAMPLIN, served 1861-1863, survived the war
Horace HAGADORN, served 1861-1863, reenlisted, killed at Petersburg 1864.
The dates of the letters would seem to point to Hagadorn, as the second one is dated 1864, after Champlin's service. The only possible and remote hangup is if Champlin also reenlisted, and I just can't find any record of that.
I'm hoping that maybe only one of them had a sister, to settle the matter. The letter also says "tell Em I'll write to her soon" if that helps any. The other two men's names listed from his company (that helped me identify what company it was) are George STRATTON and Fred PINNEY. I think they were also from the Owego area, as it says they shared care packages that came from Owego.
Thanks so much for any help.

I am searching for information on Sarah LUTHER, born 28 Apr 1789, who married David MOSHER.
David MOSHER came to Owego, Tioga Co., NY, in 1837, after his first wife Betsy LEE died in Greenfield, NY.
He married Sarah LUTHER as his second wife on 2 June 1838 (according to the Mosher family bible). I assume the marriage happened in Owego, probably at a church. They moved away sometime around 1845.
I wonder if someone might have access to church records in Owego. I would like to find Sarah LUTHER's parents, and which church they were married in.
Thank you.

I am looking for any and all information on Roxana FERRIS, born in Tioga county on Feb. 20, 1820. She married Elijah LAKE about 1840, probably in Spencer. Elijah LAKE bought land from Stephen FERRIS (m. Deborah MOSHER), whom I surmise is the father of Roxana. Elijah and Roxana moved west around the mid-1840s, going first to Erie, NY (or PA?), then to Wisconsin, and finally to Iowa where both died.
As nearly as I can interpret census records Stephen and Deborah had the following children:
Male b. abt. 1815
Female b. abt. 1817
Male b. abvt. 1819
Female b. abt. 1820 (This is the child I believe is very likely Roxana)
Two children born between 1820 and 1830. One possibly Stephen Jr. In one census these children are M&F, in another M&M
Emma, b. 1833
Charles, b. 1835
Lucy, b. 1837
Lewis, b. 1840
I am particularly interested in verifying that Stephen FERRIS and Deborah (MOSHER) FERRIS are the parents of Roxana, and in finding the ancestry of Stephen and Deborah. Also, names and dates of birth for unidentified children.

He married Eunice HULL, probably in Broome Co., NY abt. 1820.

It is believed that Eunice later lived with her daughter Polly and husband, James C. PRINTY, before her death circa after 1880. Both Harvey and Eunice are buried in the Flat Rock Cem., Jackson Twp, Ripley Co., IN, but no stones mark their graves as of 1981.
