I am originally from Canajoharie, NY, presently from Englewood, Florida.
Fully believe that my great great grandfather Henry MASLIN, wife Eliza, are probably buried in the Owego area.
Henry was born around 1813 in England (don't know about Eliza). They are in the 1870 census with Henry's age being 57 (right in the ballpark).
Henry was first married to my great great grandmother Mary Ann Andrews, born in Kent, England. They divorced somewhere between 1848 and 1851.
Henry and his first wife Mary Ann, had three daughters, one named Isabella (Of Canajoharie) who was my great grandmother.
Isabella was married to my great grandfather George GRIMSHAW. They are both buried in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Canajoharie.
If you have any info on the life and death of Henry and Eliza and any children they may have had, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks very much.

I am trying to find some info about Major John SMITH, who served 4 different times during the Rev. War.
After the war he settled in Maughantowano flats, with his wife, Elizabeth OGDEN, and children; Elizabeth, Nathan, Gilbert, David and John.
He died on May 3, 1818, in Nichols, Tioga Co, N.Y.
I am trying to find out his service number, and place of burial.
Being a Veteran I thought this would be easy, but I'm having a hard time, verifying his war record.
I read in several different books about his orders to burn stores and to destroy a bridge in front of the British by General George WASHINGTON.
He was sued by a neighbor, after the war and he produced the written orders, the case was dismissed.
So I know he served in the Army, but I would like to know his service number and place of final rest.
Can someone please help me with this. Thank you.

Searching for verification on parents of Betsey Ann TUTTLE wife of Joel.
She was born 01 Dec 1808 in Delaware Co., died July 16 1892 in Candor.
Her daughter Betsey Tuttle SILVERNAIL 1840-1901, lists her parents as Joel TUTTLE and Betsey COURSEN but the death records at Candor Townhall state parents are Joseph and Margaret STILSON which I believe to be wrong.
Also the 1855 census states Betsey here in Tioga Co. for 30yrs and Joe Stilson listed for 25yrs, so again how can he be her father? I believe her parents to be William and Elizabeth COURSEN, came from NJ plus their tombstone is next to hers.
Betsey and Joel's other children were:
William H TUTTLE of Owego;
Caroline wife of Thomas Jefferson COOPER of Chemung;
Louisa wife of Edwin Jerome STEVENS of Willseyville.
Appreciate hopefully someone from these families might have information that can help sort this out. Thanks

Seeking other researchers with possible information about a Mrs. Newton MEADE of or around the Candor, Tioga County, NY area.

Elta was married to Alphonso (Alfonzo) E. HART (s/o Marcus HART and Melissa L. MEAD or MEADE; both of Tioga County).
Known sibling sisters were:
Cora Julie (m. George Franklin GALPIN);
Allie (married Sidney Francis GALPIN);
Sabrina
Eunice.
There may be others - perhaps:

If you're researching the MEAD or MEADE families from the Candor area and if one of your male family members named NEWTON married a DENNIS female, I would greatly appreciate it if you'd contact me to exchange family information. This mysterious woman is one of my "missing pieces" of my family history.

I am attempting to identify Patrick CONSADINE/CONSIDINE of Tioga County as my great-grandfather.
He was from Ireland and married to Mary DILLON. He and his family were in Chicago in the 1880 Census, when his age is given as 45 years.
The Census states that before arriving in Chicago, he and his wife had children born in New York State and Pennsylvania.
The History of Pennsylvania Volunteers 1861-1865 by Sam P. Bates lists a man with the same name as my great-grandfather on page 488 of one of the five volumes.
The Bates' book lists the following: " CONSADINE, PATRICK, enlisted November 28, 1864; substitute; discharged by special order March 22, 1865."
I have just received a reply from the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D. C. that they have no record of his service.
I would much appreciate obtaining any and all information about this Patrick CONSADINE who was from Tioga County, PA and who served with the PA 45th Regiment, Co. G.
Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Am looking for information about the family of Hiram J. BEEBE formerly of N. Brookfield that came to Candor, NY in July of 1899.
Hiram married Ellen Amelia HILLS daughter of Chloe CLARKE and James HILLS originally of N. Brookfield, NY.
Also looking for information about Anna Snow PERSONIOUS of Brookendale, NY. She married my grandfather as his second wife when May A. PAYNE BEEBE (of W. Eaton, NY) died in Feb. 1922.
Anna and my grandfather Will Lyman BEEBE were married the following Feb. in 1923. They lived in the BEEBE house on Church Street. Will died in June of 1934, and Anna lived there till her death as a result of complications from a broken hip which she broke in Nov. of 1954.
The house were they lived was sold to John and Peg STICKLE. They are still living there. We lived next door on the left side as you face the house.
Any information about Anna Snow PERSONIOUS would be appreciated. She is buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Candor along with Will and his first wife May A. BEEBE.
Any help you can give in regard to these names would be appreciated.

I need help finding anything on the William DOVE family.
William lived in Factoryville in the 1850's and had two children I am
aware of:
1. Floyd
2. Percy md. Leona
Later the DOVE's lived in Waverly and Leona DOVE, the widow of Percy still lives there.
My Dad, Percy Elmer DOVE raised me in Waverly, NY. He told me stories of his family.
His father, William DOVE, as a young adult, traveled and worked for P.T. Barnum in his circus. He was a trapeze artist and contortionist. He could also juggle anything. He was 1/2 Seneca Indian.
Thank you for any information.

I'm looking for any record of the Michael GROAT (GROTE, DE GROAT) family in Tioga County around 1820.
John GROAT says on his Civil War Enlistments papers that he was born on April 13,1820 in Tioga,NY.
I don't know whether it refers to the county or the town.
His parents are Michael (b. abt 1784 NY) and Permelia (b. abt 1787 NY) GROAT.
They may have been there only a short time, possibly in Oneida Cty in 1815 and Monroe Cty by 1843.
Thank you.

I am interested in contacting one of the men that compiled the list of persons buried at the BROWN Cemetery in Tioga County.
His name is John CAMP and it was done in the early 1980's.
My interest in this contact is that my husband has family members with the last name of CAMP that lived in Campville in the 1800's and John CAMP may be related and have some family information to share.
As I am doing family GENEALOGY I can say we are the KINNEY's who are related to the CAMPS and the CAFFERTY's from this area. Our KINNEY's and CAMP's did not move to far away over the many years. They married and had families and retired in Olean, Endwell and Endicott.
It is extremely exciting to me to have as much info as possible and wouldn't it be interesting if John CAMP was a distant cousin?
I'm sure you understand my interest and enthusiasm and appreciate the excitement in this message.
Thank you.

I am trying to locate our family Bible which my Aunt Delores FOLK had apparently "loaned" to another family member from Owego, N.Y. or Nichols, N.Y. , or Endicott, N.Y., whose last name is BUSH.
Unfortunately, my 89 yr. old Aunt can't remember who the people were. This Bible belonged to my mother's family (FOLK-DUNCAN-KEECH) and probably contains much information on my ancestors and I would like to have it returned to our family.
I would really appreciate any information leading to the return of the Bible, or any other books with information on Elmer and Carrie FOLK of Nichols, N.Y.
I really don't know but it would probably be 15 yrs. ago or more.
Thank you.

I am looking for information about the birth and death of one Ellen N. BEEBE. She is buried in Candor, NY at Maple Grove cemetery. Her death is listed as 1928. I don't know the month. She is buried in the Will L. BEEBE plot.
I have never heard of her and was wondering if any of the older Candor-ites may have heard of her?
When my great Grandfather Hiram J. BEEBE came to Candor, NY in July of 1899 from N. Brookfield, he brought along his wife Ellen HILLS BEEBE, and my grandfather Will L. BEEBE who married May A. PAYNE of W. Eaton NY in Madison County. Then in 1922, MAY died and Will married Anna PERSONIOUS. Her parents Olive SNOW and David PERSONIOUS were of Brookendale I think. Will died in 1934 and Anna in 1954.
When I checked on a family web site, I did find that Amelia had a first name which was Ellen. But it sure as heck didn't mention Louise which was in the Candor obit when my dad wrote the notice.
So now I am totally confused as to who is married to who and if this Ellen N. BEEBE just happen to get slipped in to the Will BEEBE burial plot by mistake.
Please, Please, help with the confusion that has reared its ugly head!!
I have in my possession a book called "The Eternal HILLS" written in 1973 by Donna Spooner Tanney. She is related to the BEEBE family thru the Frank SPOONER line. Apparently her relatives I think it was a grandmother is one of 5 daughters that James HILLS and his wife Choloe CLARK HILLS had. They lived in Madison Co. in the N. Brookfield area. Another of the 5 daughters names was Amelia, 'who is the youngest of the girls', she married my great grandfather Hiram J. BEEBE. They had three children to my knowledge a Will L. BEEBE, Winifred a daughter and James H. BEEBE, another son, named in honor of Choloe's uncle.
I don't know much about them either, but do know, that Winafred married a George SMITH of Brookfield and later moved to Long Island, NY (no children are mentioned).
James H. BEEBE, I know nothing but his date of birth and aside from that, it is zip.
But if any one out there has any information about any of the people that I have mentioned, I would greatly appreciate any help they can give.
Thank you.

Several different branches of the BOARDMAN family were in the Tioga Co. area starting in about 1810. They were in the Smithboro, Nichols, and Owego areas to the present day.
First dates for some of those who fathered large clans are:
1. Issac Smith BOARDMAN, settled 1800 in Tioga Co., NY; later laid out the
village of Smithboro.
2. Martin BOARDMAN, settled 1829 in Tioga Co., PA.
3. Edward and Ephraim BOARDMAN (nephews to Martin), settled 1846 in Bradford
Co., PA.
I am interested in all of the various branch members who were in the area.
Allied families in my line from the same area are CORNELL, SHOEMAKER, SHERWOOD, and WHITE.
Thank you.

Can anyone tell me what the birth / death dates are for "Old John STEVENS", born July 24th (1731/2) and his wife?
I am searching for our STEVENS/STEPHENS progenitor.
John says in his Rev. War pension application (1832) he was in Spencer, Tioga Co, after the War. I found him in the 1820 census.
His wife probably died in Spencer. John STEVENS/STEPHENS died between 1835-40 when he was no longer on the pension rolls. Please advise me of any historians / libraries in the Spencer area that might have available information.
Your response is appreciated.

I have found letters written 1852 thru 1863 by a James Martin MacDOWALL.
He lived in Catatonk Valley, and his wife's name was Ann.

He also had daughters, but I don't have there names.
Do you have any record of a Doctor by that name?

My great great grandfather, Hugh TROY, came from Ireland around 1852.
He appears in the 1860 US census as living with his son, John TROY, Spencer, N.Y. with age listed as 65 years old.
He does not appear in the 1870 census so may have been deceased by then. Hugh would have been born about 1795 in Ireland.
Around 1884 John TROY moved to Tompkins County building a house there on what is now the Troy road, and Hugh does not appear in any pictures or data from that time period. John TROY also had a son and grandson named Hugh TROY which I have all data about.
I am looking for the death date, & place of death and burial for Hugh TROY Father of John TROY.
Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for information on parents and grandparents of Floyd GILTNER.
I know Floyd (b 1877, d 1955) and his wife Mabel (b 1881, d 1958) are buried in the churchyard of Barton Methodist Church. In same cemetery is Ezra GILTNER (b 1849, d 1915) and his wife Rose (d 1927). Would this be Floyd's father and mother?
There is no maiden name shown for Rose. Wonder if she could be an ATCHINSON. There are some ATCHINSON'S in same cemetery and I remember this surname being mentioned by my mother but do not know the connection.
Thank you for any information.

I am looking for information on Celista COWEN.
The death certificate of Julia A. CORTRIGHT lists as parents, A. GALPIN and Selista COWEN.
In 1850, Julia Ann is living with her grandparents, I haven't found A. GALPIN in 1850.
The GALPIN Family in America lists Julia's father as Amerk GALPIN, but does not list her mother. There is a Celista COWEN listed in the Maple Grove Cemetery, died 4/28/1847, at age 30. But why wouldn't she be Celista GALPIN?
The GALPIN Family in America lists Amerk's children as Hattie, Lillie, Herbert P., Julia b. in 1844, and Henrietta b. April 19, 1847, the same month Celista died. Did she die from complications in childbirth?
To add to the confusion, the Tioga Co., Historical Society has a card on a Julia GALPIN age 31, died April 28, 1847.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
