Eva BROUGHTON, b.New York, possibly Olean, Cattaraugus
Co, mid-late 1800's, m. Parley LINDSEY from McKean
Co. PA. Lived in Port Allegheny PA and had 3-4 children: Bessie, Edith, Anna
Bell, and Charles. We think that Eva and Parley divorced, Eva moved to Olean
NY, married Rufus BRANT, taking Bessie with her. All
we have are memories of my father who has since died. We would like to prove
these rumors by finding birth records, marriage certificates, divorce records,
anything. Have searched McKean County Courthouse records and found nothing.
Does anyone have new ideas for us?

Hi, I am looking for information on any of the
FRITSCHER or FRITCHER's that
lived in Tioga County, NY and Bradford County, PA in the mid 1800's. Particularly
with respect to George, James, or John FRITCHER or their ancestors, siblings
or descendants. John Fritcher moved on to Iowa in 1858, but James lived in
Tioga County at least until 1871. Related surnames may be
NICHOLAS, MARTIN, ANTHONY, ELMER, and
WEBSTER.
I have seen references to Athens in Bradford County, PA. with respect to John and George Fritcher, and the name Richard Fritcher on line in the published history of Sayre, PA. James Fritcher's will was filed in the Town of Barton, Surrogate Court on 10/6/1871 and the will was sent from the village of Owego, County of Tioga, NY in August 1877 to his place of probate in Mitchell County, Iowa. The other Fritcher's are listed in the 1850 PA census for Athens Township, which is right over the border into PA (John and Esther Webster Fritcher, George and his wife Lucy, and another Fritcher who was a shoemaker and several children). Then there are a Lydia and Samuel (I think mother and son) listed in Troy Township and James is listed in Smithfield Township.
The related lines I mentioned were mentioned in James' will (Charles Anthony, Howard ELMER, and Richard Elmer as having been taking care of James property while he was in Iowa), J. D. NICHOLAS as a son-in-law of James. What I am trying to figure out is how these people are connected to each other and then which of the Fritcher families they came from (my John was from Canajoharie, NY and married Esther Webster from Sharon NY) in and around Montgomery County, NY. Thanks for your help.

Eliza Ann MONTAYNE/MONTAINE, was called "of Broome
County, New York" when she married Harvey Bronson
FOOTE in Shelby County, Ohio, in 1817.
Harvey d. 1824, leaving her with 3 small children, and she married Joseph
GARNER/GARVER in 1826.
Her father was likely Elijah Montayne.
Working backward from this assumption, we've found Elijah in the 1800 census
of Tioga County: the family ages fit. And we're assuming Elijah is the same
man mentioned in Riker's HARLEM: ITS ORIGINS AND EARLY ANNALS (reprint 1970),
p. 789: "John T., as called, married Mary BLAIN.
Peter, Isaac, and Jacob Montanye, who early removed to central New York,
are believed to have been his sons.
Peter, born 1775, died 1850, at Sem-pronius, was father of John, Elijah (who
moved to Ohio) and William..."
But thus far we have only our assumptions and clues. We'd like to find
documentary sources that might help prove or dis-prove this working hypothesis
or other researchers who are also grappling with this problem.
Thanks for your help. Steve Hicks, 1016 E. 1292 Road, Lawrence, KS 66047
