Arthur M. Scovell, 78, a resident of the Bradford County Manor and formerly of Cadis, Pa., passed away Friday evening, July 16, 2004. He was born April 13, 1926 in Towanda, a son of the late Harry and Evelyn (Allen) Scovell. Arthur was a graduate of Vestal High School and proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy, following his honorable discharge, he was employed at the Owego Police Department and for many years worked for various construction companies in the area. He was a member of the Owego and Nichols American Legions.

Arthur is survived by: his daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry Chaffee of Endicott, N.Y., Lois and David Housen of Almond, N.Y., Brenda Scovell and Cliff Fuller of Apalachin, N.Y., and Donna and Gerry Short of Chandler, Ariz.; his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Joyce Scovell of Keene Valley, N.Y., and Harry "Smokey" Scovell of Nichols, N.Y.; the mother of his children, Doris (Hill) Scovell of Sayre; brother and sister-in-law, Donald "Bucky" and Vivian Scovell of Nichols; special grandchildren, Vicky, Maureen Victor, Tina, Tammy, Bill, Hope, Scott, David, Melissa, Holly, Art, Heather, Shane, Tristan, Brittany and James; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by: his sister, Arleigh Kellum; brother, Larry Scovell; and son, Keith Scovell.

Funeral services and celebration of Art's life were held Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols, with the Rev. James Donahoo, pastor of the Sayre Christian Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Jim Fuller, Jim Campoli, Ed Smith, Bruce Zorn, Hope Scovell and Billy Scovell.
