Sally Ann Zimmer was born in Schoharie County, New York on May 2, 1826. She is believed to have been the first of 13 children belonging to Henry Zimmer (1Apr1805-21Mar1880) and Mary Potter (26Feb1804-14Jul1875). It is believed that she moved to the East Newark region of Tioga County, New York during the late 1820s with her family. The Zimmer name is quite prominent in this area and one of the early pioneer names. Sally probably grew up in the East Newark regions. There is little information about her youth and the extent of her education. Sally Ann Zimmer united in marriage with Peter Adam Shoultes around the year 1843. Peter Adam Shoultes was born on February 1, 1821 at Knox (Albany County), New York. He was the son of Jacob Ira Shoultes (8Feb1798-25May1856) and Elizabeth Isabell Leip (17Feb1798-17Apr1872) and migrated to Tioga County with his family in 1825. According to census records, Peter and Sally Shoultes established a small farm in the East Newark region and gave birth to four children. According to family legend, Sally Shoultes died from childbirth complications in 1853 following the birth of their daughter Mary Elizabeth (4Sep1853-1Oct1862). There is no documentation to prove this theory and no gravemarker has been found. It is believed that she was buried in the East Newark Cemetery, near the village of Newark Valley (Tioga County), New York.
There is no formal documentation proving her parentage. Conclusions
concerning her date of death are drawn based upon the fact that she is not
mentioned in her husband's Last Will and Testament in 1856 and her daughter
Mary (1853-1862) is living with her alleged grandparents as an orphan in
1860. |
