Raymond A. Perine, 79, of Owego, NY, passed away on Friday November 28, 2008, at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Jeanine (Utley) Perine; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Kelly Perine, Savona, NY; his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Frank Nelson, Peoria, AZ; grandchildren, Melissa Talada, David and Emily Nelson; his sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Richard Kraycir, Chatham, MA; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Best. Ray was born in Dover, NJ on July 10, 1929, the son of the late, Raymond V. and Hypatia (Lucas) Perine.

After high school, he continued his education at Broome Tech, graduating with the highest marks ever at that time in the Engineering Department. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the US Air Force from 1949 to 1952. Ray and Jeanine met during their time in the service and were married in 1951. He worked his career for New York State Electric and Gas, advancing through the company, and retiring as Vice President of Gas Operations after 30 plus years of service. Ray was always active and dedicated to his community. For sometime, he had a radio show in WEBO known as the Bill Graham/Ray Perine Big Band Dixieland Jazz Hour. He was on the Board of Directors for Tioga Opportunities, Past President of Owego Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce. Ray was also an EMT with the American Legion Ambulance Service for many years and served as a volunteer Dispatcher for the Owego Police Department.

A private Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family. Richards Funeral Home of Owego is assisting with arrangements. Those wishing may consider a memorial contribution in memory of Ray to the Owego Police Department Benevolent Association, the American Legion Post 401, or the charity of one’s choice.
