Helen M. (Backer) Park
Helen M.B. Park, Helen M. (BACKER) PARK, 100, of Nichols passed away Tuesday, October 19th, 2004 at the Tioga Nursing Home in Waverly. Helen was born on March 12th, 1904 in Waverly, a daughter of the late Harry and Sarah (SAVERY) BACKER. She graduated from Waverly High School in 1922 and attended Geneseo State College, receiving a degree in Library Science. Helen was a much loved teacher and librarian in many area rural schools including Lockwood, Smithboro-Canfield, Tioga Central and Owego-Apalachin school districts. Helen was a member of the Nichols United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Friends of the Cady Library in Nichols and an honorary life member of the Nichols Ro-Ki Club. She belonged to the Eastern Star Chapter #175 in Nichols and served as the first secretary of the Nichols Senior Citizens Club.
She was predeceased by Clifford PARK, her husband of 54 years and is survived by: A son, Gaylord PARK of Zephyrhills, Fla.; her grandchildren, Jaime PARK, Jon PARK and Pamela & Bob JORDAN; great-granddaughter Brieanna PARK and her mother Mary PILLSBURY, all of Florida. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of special friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Main Street in Nichols, with her pastor, Rev. Val ROMMEL, officiating. Friends may call at the church from12:30 until the time of service. Burial will be in the Park family plot at the Nichols Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Disabled Veterans or any charity of choice. Caring assistance is being provided by the Cooley Family of the Sutfin Funeral Home.
