Nettie B. (Howell) Kryger, 89, formerly of Arkport and Waverly, N.Y., passed away peacefully with her daughter and granddaughter by her side, on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at McAuley Manor.
Born in Greene, N.Y., on Oct. 22, 1919, the daughter of Earl and Pearl RUSSELL HOWELL, she had been a 60-year resident of the Waverly area, before moving in with her daughter Pearl in Arkport.
Nettie married Clarence KRYGER on March 22, 1937, who predeceased her in 1998.
She had been a member of the Nazarene Church in Waverly, and had worked for various hospitals, including Robert Packer Hospital from 1957 to 1962, St. Joseph's Hospital from 1962 to 1968, and Arnot Ogden from 1968 to 1980. Nettie was an avid Yankees fan, enjoyed bowling, and loved pets and word puzzles.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Clarence; a son, Ricky Clarence KRYGER, in 1955; two sisters; and two brothers.
She is survived by three daughters, Pearl (Charles) HO;BROOK of Arkport, Shirley (Joe) LOPRESTE of Waverly and Phyllis (Ron) BENNETT of Carlisle, Pa.; a son, Roger (Judy) KRYGER of West Virginia; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
The family was present from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell, where funeral services were held at 2 p.m., with her grandson, the Rev. Michael HOLBROOK, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Waverly. .
