Gerald John KENIRY, 79, of Howell Street, Nichols, passed away peacefully Monday evening, Oct. 17, 2005 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre.

He was born on June 21, 1926 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late William and Ann (DOOGHAN) KENIRY. Jerry proudly served during WWII with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Nichols American Legion and a life member of the Owego VFW; the Knights of Columbus and the Disabled American Veterans.

Jerry enjoyed traveling to California, being with his family and was especially proud of his Irish heritage.

Jerry is survived by his sister and caregiver, Joan VANDEMARK of Nichols; nieces, Cindy and Dick PERRY of Smithboro, N.Y., Jane EGAN and Michael KATCHUK of Nichols, Colleen and Anthony DEFILLIPPO of Queens, N.Y., and Bernice MORIARTY of Wilmington, Del.; nephews, Duane and Cora VANDEMARK of Buford, Ga., Douglas VANDEMARK of Smithboro, N.Y., Kevin and Patricia MORIARTY of Cota DeCasa, Calif., and William and Gail MORIARTY of Brooklyn, N.Y. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.

Jerry was predeceased by his sisters, Anna, Margaret, Veronica; brother, Bill and Edward; nephew, Stephen MORIARTY; and a brother-in-law, Stephen MORIARTY.

Abiding with his wishes, cremation will take place at the Tioga Point Crematory, Athens. A memorial service and time of remembering will held on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral chapel from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held on Friday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. in the Nichols Cemetery. Flowers will be provided by the family and memorial contributions may be directed to the Nichols Fire Dept., P.O. Box 336, Nichols or the Nichols American Legion Honor Guard, Dean Street, Nichols, NY 13812 in loving memory of Gerald "Jerry" Keniry.
