Jacob Henry Shoultes was born on September 2, 1849 in the eastern farming regions of the Newark (Tioga County), New York settlement. He was the first child of Ira Jacob Shoultes (21Nov1827-18Apr1905) and Lana Snapp (14Aug1830-11Aug1894) and was born on the original Shoultes homestead.

Jacob Henry Shoultes was the first Shoultes to be buried in the cemetery located near the homestead. The cause of his death is not known but the date is recorded as November 5, 1851. The small engraved tombstone lies near the majestic family plot located in the East Newark Cemetery, near the village of Newark Valley (Tioga County), New York.
