EDNA BASTIN STRAWN

Edna Bastin Strawn, age 83, of Scotia, NY, and formerly a 55 year resident of Elmira, passed away on July 21, 2007 at the Baptist Health Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Scotia.

Born in VanEtten, NY on December 10, 1923, Edna was the daughter of John and Angeline (Grover) Bastian and wife of 31 years to Paul Strawn, who predeceased her on May 7, 1984. She is the last survivor of two brothers, George and Raymond Bastain; and five sisters, Esther Holmes, Mildred Mohlar, Dorothy Palmer, Clara Brown, and Mary Lou Briggs.

Edna was the loving mother of Robert W. (Charlene) Donald Jr. of Schenectady, NY, and Richard J. (Donna) Donald of Wesley Chapel, Florida. She was the devoted grandmother of Dennis (Crystal) Donald; and the loving great-grandmother to their children, Dalton and Chauna, presently in Davenport, Iowa.

Edna is also survived by many nieces, including Marge (Bernard) Roche of Gaston, South Carolina, Coni (Robert) Allen of Zanesville, Ohio, and Esther (Herbert) Tillotson of VanEtten, NY; and great-niece, Tracy (Greg) LaDue of Elmira; as well as many great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews. She is also survived by her devoted friend, Mary Hyde of Southport, NY. Edna was Salutatorian of her graduating class. Edna was a wonderful mother who was devoted to her sons and their families.

In addition, she loved and adopted many pets during her lifetime. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. Edna was also a great cook who loved nothing better than to cook a delicious meal for her family and friends. Her family will always fondly remember all of her wonderful meals and great times that they had with Edna at her home.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral Services will take place there on Thursday, July 26, at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in VanEtten, NY. Edna's family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff, the great nurses, the aides, and the wonderful Doctor Ringler of the Baptist Health Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Scotia NY who took such good care of Edna for the past seven years. Memorial contributions in Edna's name may be made to the Baptist Health Nursing Rehabilitation Center, 297 N. Ballston Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
